I remember walking into my mom’s bedroom one evening when I was seven or so. She was sitting on the floor in front of her bed in tears. I went to hug her, and she smelled like lavender as she always did, probably from the sweet scented lotion she’d let me use too sometimes. (Isn’t it fun when your mom lets you use her things and try on her shoes when you are tiny?) She persevered through tough times and provided for the two of us, and a few years later she blessed me with two tiny sisters that have stolen my heart. She has suffered loss but is the happiest (and weirdest) human I know; and she is a wonderful mom. So here’s to lavender ice cream from Seattle that we shared and lavender scented pillow cases from my childhood, when the ghosts scared me and I’d snuggle up next to you; you, my mom, who was always there. Lavender is healing, beauty, and loyalty, coming back on its own year after year.
One thing I’ve been pondering this week is writing. I feel like I’ve had writer’s block for the past year or so. I don’t know if that’s even possible, so hopefully it’s not just me being horrible 🙂 Anyway, this blog has been a source of growth in my writing, so thank you for letting me share a little bit of my life with you.
I encourage you to keep doing things you’re passionate about, even if you feel like you’re messing up or not getting it “quite right.” You’ll get there, I promise.
And a huge thanks to Chris at Tailwind tattoo in Bismarck for this rad piece of art. I’m so in love with it!
Have a happy weekend, everyone!
